5 Questions to Ask Before Paying
1. Can you show me live websites you have built?
Not screenshots. Not Behance mockups. Live URLs.
Go to those websites. Check if they load fast on your phone. Check if they look professional. Check if the contact forms work. If a designer cannot show you live client work, that is an immediate red flag.
2. Are you GST registered?
GST registration requires a valid business address, PAN, and government verification. A registered vendor has legal accountability. An unregistered freelancer does not.
For any amount above ₹5,000, always insist on a GST invoice. This protects you legally and gives you a paper record.
3. Who exactly will build my website?
Some agencies in Guwahati take your money and outsource the work to cheaper freelancers in other cities. Ask directly: "Will you build this yourself, or will someone else?" A straightforward answer is expected. Vagueness is a warning sign.
4. What happens if something breaks after delivery?

Template websites sold as custom
Some designers buy a ₹3,000 template, put your logo on it, and charge ₹25,000. Ask directly: "Is this a custom design or a template?" Templates are not inherently bad — but you should know what you are paying for.
No real phone or WhatsApp contact
If you cannot reach them before hiring, imagine trying to reach them after a problem.
Unrealistic promises
